Discover the Ancestral Legacy of Sillustani: Between the Earth and the Sky
Immerse yourself in a fascinating experience to Sillustani, one of the most enigmatic archaeological complexes of the Andean highlands, located just 40 minutes from the city of Puno. This sacred site, used as a cemetery by the pre-Inca and Inca cultures, shelters an impressive set of chullpas or funerary towers, some of which reach up to 12 meters in height, standing out for their architectural precision and spiritual symbolism.
During this approximately 3.5-hour tour, which takes place in the afternoon (from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.), you will explore the Sillustani peninsula, surrounded by the serene waters of the Umayo Lagoon. The natural environment, combined with the millenary history of the place, creates a perfect setting for contemplation and connection with the ancestral past of the Andes.
The chullpas housed the remains of ancient nobles and authorities, buried along with valuable offerings such as ceramics, textiles and precious metals, elements that reflect the cosmovision and the high cultural level of these civilizations. Among the most emblematic is the Chullpa del Lagarto, near which an extraordinary burial trousseau was found with more than 500 gold pieces, currently exhibited in the Carlos Dreyer Museum in Puno.
